British news bit on a Feltham memorial garden for Freddie. Kashmira and Brian attend.

Article about Bohemian Rhapsody (the song) in Rolling Stone because the song is now 50 years old. Brian remembers himself, Roger, and Freddie going inside the echoing caves of Cornwall to practice their harmonies, which I have never heard mentioned before but is a charming image.

I hope all the Freddie Mercury Fans are well and happy.

I do not believe this far-fetched story because 1. I don't see Freddie as a faithful diarist and 2. Unless there are also secret recordings, he never wrote songs about this beloved child, or about beloved children, or about children. He wrote songs about cats. He wrote songs about Mary. He wrote songs about men. No "secret child of my heart" song? 3. Entire story of secretive child who wants this news out there while remaining private is ridiculous.

I sort of wish it was true. I will probably read the book anyway. But I really can't believe it.

What about y'all? Am I being too skeptical?

I am hoping to buy an exhibit catalog.

They're doing an exhibit of some of the things at Sotheby's NY in early June and I'll try to go.

I feel sort of sad that everything's being auctioned off instead of being made into an archive, because I think Freddie was a great artist and deserves an archive, but of course there is money to be made.

I have neglected this community, as I have neglected DW in general, for which I apologize.

Last month I watched the BBC documentary "Freddie Mercury: A Life in Ten Pictures." It's pretty good, as these documentaries go. It's streaming for free (with ads) on Crackle in the US.

Did anyone else see it? Thoughts?

Also, how is everyone doing? Are you even still on DW? <3 <3 <3

Thanks to the World Zoroastrian Organization! His sister Kashmira was there for the signpost unveiling. The street is near where they lived when they first moved to England. Here is the story from Reuters.

I was driving home from work on Thursday and BoRhap came on the radio. Of course I sang along. After it was over the DJ started chatting about Queen's new popularity in the wake of the film, which is about to make $1 BILLION. The songs are back on the top of the charts. And he furthermore believes that this film alone has brought more young people to appreciate Classic Rock and more listeners to the Classic Rock radio station from whence he spoke.

Then he predicted that many young people are buying tickets to the new Queen tour fully expecting Rami Malek to come out on stage and they are going to be really confused when it's Adam Lambert.

I was really struck like this because I don't think I've really taken on board the immense popularity of the film. Are people excited for the new tour?

He says perfectly nice things about Freddie there.

I took a chance and sent him money because I *do* want that book; I want *all* the Freddie books. But it may never happen and may be a waste of money and I accept that risk.

Bo Rhap: The Film

Nothing too controversial there. It's been confirmed that Freddie's personal timeline has been rewritten, however, with him discovering that he's HIV+ before the Live Aid concert (in order to give the film a suitably climactic ending, apparently). This annoys me for reasons that I'm finding hard to articulate. We all know that historical details get altered for films, and there's nothing wrong with that generally. Apparently this film also mixes up which songs were released when, and that doesn't bother me much. That's movies. Changing when he found out about his diagnosis seems like too big a thing for me though. Whilst we'll never know when he became HIV+, it seems unlikely that he found out about it prior to 1987. Having him find out in 1985 feels very wrong. Sadly this isn't a big enough community to get a proper collection of responses, but I'd be interested in other's opinions.

The trailer actually looks quite entertaining, but I've very much lost interest in the project now, I'm afraid.

The Mr. Robot star is preparing to play Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody (out Dec. 25, 2018), the Bryan Singer-directed film that chronicles Queen from 1970, when Mercury teamed with Brian May and Roger Taylor, until the band’s performance at Live Aid in 1985, six years before the singer died of complications from AIDS. Malek channels Mercury’s look from that global-concert event.

Anyway, here is an article link: "Keep Sex, AIDS, and the Closet in Freddie Mercury's Biopic." The author Tim Teeman seems to recycle a lot of published stories as if they had been told to him personally, which I dislike. His overall point about changing cultural attitudes towards AIDS and what makes for a good biopic are on point.
