There should be cake! But not with 73 candles. My mother attempted 55 (I think) for my father once, and damned near burnt the cake down. My niece and nephew, who are now in their thirties (ouch), still speak of it with awe!
Also flowers, because he loved them so. I believe freesias were his favourite.
I should have baked a cake and taken a photo. Especially as my niece is trying to push me into the Instagram age by gifting me with her old iPhone!! (I can't use it yet!)
